About The Position

Analyst, Specialty Underwriter & Portfolio Manager - CRE The Secured Underwriting group within our Commercial Real Estate business plays a critical role in the Bank’s growth, ensuring we maintain a scalable, well-managed portfolio. As an Underwriting Analyst, you will move beyond the basics of credit risk management to take ownership of deal analysis with meaningful autonomy. In this role, you will analyze complex transactions, identify market trends, and help manage a diverse portfolio of Multifamily, Industrial, Retail, and Office assets. You won't just be crunching numbers; you will be building the narrative that drives our lending decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in credit underwriting, portfolio management or commercial real estate analysis

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal bank credit training program with a focus on real estate
  • 3+ years of experience in CRE underwriting
  • Proficiency in ARGUS, CoStar, or other real estate-specific data platforms
  • Ability to build complex financial models from scratch in Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with CRE loan documentation and legal considerations

Responsibilities

  • Financial Analysis & Modeling Drive Financial Analysis: Perform comprehensive analysis of property operating statements, rent rolls, tenant financials, collateral analysis, and pro forma projections to accurately determine debt service coverage and refinance risk.
  • Own the Model: Prepare and manage financial models with minimal guidance, synthesizing key metrics to stress-test deal structures against various economic scenarios.
  • Guarantor Review: Conduct in-depth analysis of individual and corporate guarantors (e.g. reviewing liquidity, contingent liabilities, and global cash flow) to determine true financial strength.
  • Market Research: Evaluate real estate fundamentals (submarket conditions, vacancy, supply/demand) and the asset’s competitive positioning to draw data-driven conclusions.
  • Credit Memorandums: Author clear, persuasive credit approval memos that identify risks, propose structural mitigants, and provide well-supported risk rating recommendations.
  • Due Diligence: Critically evaluate third-party reports, including appraisals, environmental site assessments, and property condition reports to assess asset quality.
  • Closing Execution: Coordinate closing requirements, prepare term sheets, and partner with senior underwriters on legal documentation negotiation.
  • Identify Trends: Proactively identify and escalate anomalies within individual deals or the broader portfolio.
  • Collaboration: Build strong relationships with Relationship Managers, Credit Officers, Loan Closers, and Legal Counsel to facilitate a smooth, transparent deal process.
  • Data Integrity: Ensure underwriting data is accurate and timely within internal systems to support robust reporting and analytics.
