About The Position

The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring that KIPP NYC remains a strong, sustainable organization capable of delivering on its promise to students and families. As a key member of the Finance Team, the FP&A Analyst supports financial modeling, reporting, and analysis that guide strategic decisions and ensure resources are aligned with our mission. This role is ideal for an analytical thinker who is energized by solving complex problems, translating data into clear insights, and supporting school and regional leaders in making informed, student-centered financial decisions. The Analyst reports directly to the Senior Director, Finance. This position is based out of our KIPP NYC Midtown Manhattan office and requires local travel throughout New York City.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field (required).
  • 3+ years of experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, or data management, including building and maintaining complex financial models (required).
  • Excellent demonstrated proficiency with general ledger systems (Sage), FP&A tools (Vena), Microsoft Office, and especially Excel and PowerPoint required; strong aptitude for learning new software.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting and financial statement analysis.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating financial risk.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present complex financial information to diverse audiences, including school leaders, authorizers, and auditors.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Senior Director of Finance in preparing clear, accurate financial reports for school leaders, regional leadership, the KIPP NYC Board of Directors, donors, financing partners, and regulators.
  • Manage the timely and accurate preparation and submission of compliance reports to state, federal, and authorizing entities (such as DOE and IRS Form 990), ensuring accuracy in annual reporting and fiscal health metrics.
  • Develop monthly financial and metrics reporting for KIPP NYC schools and programs, used by the Chief Financial Officer in Board presentations.
  • Prepare quarterly and ad hoc financial reporting packages for Board meetings and regulatory reviews.
  • Schedule regular meetings with school and team budget managers, providing high-quality analysis, excellent customer service, and clear financial guidance.
  • Serve as a liaison with Finance, Development, and Real Estate teams to create budget and spending reports for donors and financial partners.
  • Work with a subset of school and program budget managers to develop annual budgets by:
  • Establishing key financial parameters and guidelines aligned to organizational priorities.
  • Managing the annual setup of budgeting and reporting software.
  • Maintaining data integrity within financial systems through vigilant review and analysis.
  • Overseeing the full budget cycle for assigned schools/programs and ensuring complete, accurate budgets.
  • Create and maintain ongoing, accurate financial forecasts for schools and programs to support long-term planning.
  • Support the Senior Director, Finance in maintaining multi-year financial models that strengthen sustainability.
  • Provide strategic, ad hoc financial analysis and modeling to support leadership decisions related to funding, operational efficiency, and long-term organizational health.
