About The Position

The Anadromous Resources Co-Management Analyst serves as a scientific expert responsible for developing and implementing Tribal-State management plans aimed at conserving and sustainably harvesting anadromous salmon and steelhead resources in Washington State. This role involves collaboration with Washington State Tribes and navigating complex scientific, conservation, and legal challenges to ensure effective fisheries management strategies.

Requirements

  • Experience in fisheries management, conservation biology, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of anadromous fish species, particularly salmon and steelhead.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze complex scientific data and develop management recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Tribal governments and communities.
  • Familiarity with the Endangered Species Act and its implications for fisheries management.
  • Knowledge of Washington State's natural resource policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of resource management plans for Washington's steelhead and salmon populations in collaboration with Washington State Tribes.
  • Represent the agency in co-management forums on key policy issues and in major fishery management forums.
  • Attend WDFW & Tribal policy meetings to address fishing and conservation issues and ensure legal obligations are met.
  • Participate in forums with federal or state agencies, Tribes, and industry to develop regulations and policies affecting salmon and steelhead resources.
  • Confer with non-Tribal commercial and recreational fishing industry representatives, government representatives, and the public to present and interpret agency policies.
  • Negotiate agreements among non-Tribal commercial and recreational fishing sectors regarding conservation and allocation plans for salmon and steelhead fisheries.
  • Conduct scientific reviews and analyses of complex harvest and conservation issues involving state and Tribal interests, and develop recommendations for the Director's office.
  • Design strategies to implement state and tribal resource conservation plans for salmon and steelhead resources, including ESA-Listed populations.
