About The Position

The AmeriCorps Community Health Service Member will support activities related to Healthcare Network's Public Health AmeriCorps program through targeted community outreach efforts. Specifically, AmeriCorps members will provide education and outreach at testing and education sites throughout Collier County in languages other than English (traditionally Spanish, though Healthcare Network also offers Creole translators). Under guidance of the Program Manager, the AmeriCorps Community Health Service Members will represent the patient, the community and the organization, and work cohesively between Healthcare Network and site collaborative partners. This is a 100% grant-funded position.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, or GED is required
  • Experience working or volunteering in a community relations position
  • Experience with data collection
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish or Creole) to meet the needs of our community
  • Flexible team player
  • Capacity to serve including days, evenings, and weekends in order to engage in member service activities
  • Ability to travel throughout Collier County to Outreach events
  • Ability to use a computer, email or data collection tools
  • Commitment to excellence and to the mission of Healthcare Network, Volunteer Florida, and AmeriCorps
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to reach above shoulder level
  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Moderate degree of manual dexterity
  • Ability to grip

  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for indeterminate periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to _25_ pounds, with or without assistance

Responsibilities

  • Support the program in Collier County, with emphasis on Immokalee and Golden Gate City through community outreach efforts
  • Assist is cultivating strong relationships with community members
  • Distribute educational materials in communities across the county in languages native to the audience.
  • Showing compassion for those with food inequities, distribute food or goods that may be donated to the community.
  • Provide access to care by sharing the benefit of health and dental care by scheduling medical and dental appointments.
  • Assist referral designation so that patients may be scheduled with the appropriate provider
  • Assist in arranging transportation or other services as may be required by patients or potential patients.
  • Participates in AmeriCorps and Healthcare Network training, as required per program guidelines.
