Description of Duties: The American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter will provide high-quality, in-person sign language interpretation at various client locations in various medical and community settings around Indianapolis, IN. This is a 1099, contract, freelance sign language interpreter position. You will work as needed and choose your own assignments. Please note, this part-time position is in Indianapolis, IN and we do not offer relocation assistance at this time. Fluent but need your certificate? - We can help get you certified for free through our client! Must be able to travel to necessary locations within IN. Neighboring states welcome!

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of sign language and Deaf culture
  • 3+ years of ASL interpreting experience.
  • Passionate about providing language access.
  • Follow RID Interpreter Code of Ethics.
  • Able to perform more varied and difficult tasks.
  • Able to work in a collaborative team environment to obtain the best results.
  • Work as a topmost trusted partner with aFit and the client.
  • Provide attention to details.
  • Approaches challenges with a positive, consultative mindset
  • Self-starter with the desire to achieve and work with integrity.
  • Willingness to grow and change through ambiguity.
  • Learning agility, or the ability to develop new skills.
  • Open and receptive to feedback to continuously grow.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in American Sign Language or fluency.
  • Indiana Certification IIC Non-IIC+ Or grandfathered in
  • Must be able to travel to necessary locations within IN.

Nice To Haves

  • NIC certification or higher.
  • CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreters) is a major plus
