About The Position

We are seeking American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to support our software developers and engineers in meeting their mission requirements. Specifically, this candidate would help with in-house translations, facilitate communication among staff and customers, bridge the gap in customer communications (secure meetings), and work on a part-time, as needed basis. Though rare, there may be occasional travel for conferences and customer site meetings. Candidates must reside within a 30-minute commute to our Vienna office to handle scheduled and ad-hoc onsite meetings as they may arise. Meetings take place Monday - Friday, typically between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Candidates must undergo and pass a security clearance investigation before onboarding.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen (no exceptions) willing and able to be sponsored for a US government security clearance
  • Must hold a BS degree in ASL, Communication, Psycholinguistics, Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Must have at least 1 year of professional experience working as an ASL interpreter
  • Highly desirable if the experience includes technical translations, such as working with software developers, technical engineers, and/or Math or Statistics bodies
  • Must hold a certification from a recognized organization (ASL, RID, NIC, NAD, BEI, etc.)
  • Must have the ability to provide quality ASL-spoken English interpretation promptly
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the Vienna, VA area for meetings that may occur in a secure environment
  • Must be actively stay abreast of best practices in interpreting services and resources
  • Must have basic computer skills and proficiency

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a Business/Government setting with highly complex technical verbiage
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages and software developer verbiage
  • Prior experience translating for software developers
  • RID Certified interpreter
  • Experience with educating staff on how to request interpretation services appropriately
  • Experience providing recommendations to departmental leadership to ensure adequate services to deaf and hard-of-hearing.
