About The Position

We are seeking a qualified and professional American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to provide accurate, confidential, and culturally competent interpretation services between Deaf or Hard of Hearing individuals and hearing participants. This role supports effective communication across various interactions while maintaining professionalism, neutrality, and adherence to ethical standards. The position offers flexible scheduling within our hours of operation (M-F 8:45am to 5:15 pm CST) and is ideal for interpreters seeking part-time opportunities. We are proactively developing a pipeline of highly qualified candidates in preparation for the anticipated award of this work.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED: must be able to provide proof of education such as diploma or college transcripts at time of offer.
  • This position requires US Citizenship or 3 years of permanent residency.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English.
  • Demonstrated experience providing ASL interpretation in professional settings.
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and best practices for accessibility.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, neutrality, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during interpretation sessions.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for effective signing and visual comprehension.
  • Camera quality and lighting standards
  • Secure and private workspace requirements
  • Must have the ability to provide a non-cellular high speed internet service such as Fiber, DSL, or cable modems for a home office.
  • Must be able to meet the minimum internet speed requirements for specific program, which are 50 MBPS download and 15 MBPS upload.
  • Hotspots, satellite, Wi-Fi, and wireless internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • Candidates must be able to travel to the client's location to complete fingerprinting and security requirements.
  • Candidates must provide the following documentation to start the background process: Original or certified copy of the birth certificate OR passport Addresses, employment history/dates, and education for the last 10 years Two forms of valid, unexpired identification Job history template listing all work history including dates. Estimation or incorrect job history dates may deem you ineligible.

Nice To Haves

  • ASL certification (e.g., RID Certification, NAD Certification, or equivalent).
  • Prior experience interpreting in corporate, customer service, healthcare, education, or call-center environments.
  • Experience with remote/video interpreting platforms, if applicable.
  • Systems utilized include AWS Amazon Connect, Microsoft Teams, etc.
  • Familiarity with video conferencing tools

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and impartial ASL interpretation between ASL users and spoken English speakers.
  • Interpret in real time for calls, customer interactions, or other business-related communications.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Adapt interpreting style to meet the communication needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
  • Communicate professionally with internal teams to ensure effective scheduling and coordination.
  • Comply with all applicable accessibility, privacy, and professional standards.
