About The Position

The American Sign Language Adjunct Faculty position involves teaching courses as assigned at the Plainfield Campus. Faculty members are expected to teach face-to-face classes during the Fall, Spring, and other sessions, and must be willing to obtain certification to teach online. Responsibilities include adhering to the course syllabus, incorporating diverse perspectives, maintaining accurate records, and participating in the assessment of learning outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree required in the discipline unless otherwise specified.
  • Graduated from an American Sign Language - English Interpreting Program required.
  • National certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf preferred.
  • Some teaching experience is required.
  • Official college transcripts must be submitted after the interview but before the start date.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience at the community college level preferred.
  • Certification or license as needed and appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates.
  • Willingness to use alternative educational delivery systems and instructional techniques.
  • Knowledge of competency-based education.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned courses in accordance with the description published in the catalog and the approved course syllabus.
  • Incorporates an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures, and national perspectives into courses.
  • Utilizes library resources, writing as an instructional method, and academic technologies in courses.
  • Meets all scheduled class meetings and advises the Division Dean/Assistant Dean of absences in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate grade and attendance records and submits required reports.
  • Submits grades by the published deadline.
  • Participates in assessment of learning outcomes and uses results in course planning.
  • Plans in advance for the availability of supplies, textbooks, and classroom equipment.
  • Submits progress reports on students and discusses any problems requiring special attention.
  • Adheres to College policies and procedures.
