About The Position

The AmeriCorps - BrigAIDe Mobile Outreach position focuses on building relationships with homeless individuals in Hillsborough County, providing advocacy, resources, and connecting them to essential services and housing. Members engage in direct service activities, gaining experience in crisis intervention, outreach, and community resource coordination over a service term from February 3, 2025, to July 31, 2025.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Understanding of poverty and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work and communicate with low socio-economic and diverse participants in a professional manner.
  • Non-judgmental, empathetic, and caring individual with good listening skills.
  • Reliable transportation required for community travel.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

  • Bilingual preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Visit communities and canvas neighborhoods to build relationships with individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
  • Administer assessments to determine the needs of individuals.
  • Provide information and referrals to community resources for housing, employment, health, food, and transportation.
  • Distribute basic needs supplies such as clothing, hygiene supplies, food, and blankets to those in need.
  • Assist clients in applying for public benefits and preparing SSI/SSDI applications.
  • Maintain linkages with community agencies to coordinate service delivery.
  • Complete data entry into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and maintain up-to-date records on all services and client files.
  • Participate in trainings, community meetings, and workshops, implementing best practices on street outreach.
