About The Position

As an AMC Operator, you’ll play a vital role in safeguarding our operational assets, colleagues, and the public across Southern Water’s estate. From monitoring CCTV and managing access permissions to responding to alarm activations, you’ll be at the heart of our security operations - ensuring swift, accurate, and compliant responses to incidents at some of our most critical sites. You’ll act as the key link between our operational sites and the Operational Control Centre, gathering intelligence, verifying alarm activations, and escalating incidents in line with our security response protocols. Operating from our Alarm Monitoring Centre, you’ll contribute directly to our protective security strategy and regulatory compliance. The role demands composure under pressure, especially when handling emergency situations, viewing sensitive footage, or communicating with distressed individuals.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of CCTV legislation and operational security disciplines
  • Experience working in a busy alarm monitoring/control room (minimum 3 years in a corporate setting)
  • Familiarity with integrated security systems (CCTV, alarms, access control)
  • Proven collaboration with law enforcement or security agencies
  • SIA CCTV and Door Supervisor licenses is essential
  • Experience in matrix organisations and providing security guidance
  • You will either have or be willing to obtain CTC security clearance
  • Strong observational and analytical skills, especially under pressure
  • Clear and effective communication—both written and verbal
  • Ability to make sound decisions within defined guidelines
  • Confidence in managing sensitive conversations and incidents
  • Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Membership in a recognised security body (e.g., Security Institute, ASIS) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor CCTV feeds and respond to incidents according to established protocols
  • Track and verify alarm activations across the estate, initiating appropriate responses
  • Manage remote access permissions in line with security guidelines
  • Conduct scheduled remote tests and checks of security systems
  • Maintain detailed operational logs throughout your shift
  • Support the AMC Supervisor in delivering the broader security strategy
  • Produce and manage Southern Water access control cards
