About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated individual to assist providers during exams in outpatient clinics. This role involves performing a variety of clinical tasks that support patient care, ensuring comfort, safety, and efficiency in the clinical environment. The position requires applying clinical knowledge, managing supplies and equipment, and maintaining patient records, all while adhering to established protocols and standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year experience in a customer-focused/service setting required.
  • Associate's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers during exams by applying clinical knowledge.
  • Anticipate provider needs and adapt to patient complexity.
  • Attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment.
  • Provide information, comfort, and care to patients during exams.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are available for smooth operations.
  • Give patients provider's pre-printed instructions for discharge.
  • Ensure correct number and type of supplies are available in exam rooms.
  • Responsible for efficient room utilization and minimizing patient wait time.
  • Escort patients from waiting area to exam areas.
  • Obtain vital signs and perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection.
  • Accurately label, log, and process specimens according to protocol.
  • Enter patient data into electronic medical record system.
  • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling and registration.
  • Maintain adequacy of clinical equipment and medical supply levels.
  • Conduct inventory of supplies and monitor expiration dates.
  • Make recommendations to decrease costs in equipment and supplies usage.
  • Interact with purchasing department regarding product back orders.
  • Implement standard infection prevention measures.
  • Precept new employees under RN oversight.
  • Assist providers as a surgical procedure assistant.
  • Prepare room and instrumentation for procedures.
  • Check and calibrate equipment according to protocol.
  • Prepare specimens in appropriate preservative medium.
  • Review discharge instructions with patients.

  • Competitive salary range of $18.00 - $23.81 per hour.
  • Full-time position with 40 scheduled weekly hours.
