About The Position

Under the supervision of the Manager of Surgical Services, the OP/PACU RN provides pre-anesthesia, post-anesthesia (Phase I and II), limited intraoperative, and endoscopy care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. This role involves delivering safe, high-quality, and cost-effective nursing care using the nursing process while supporting overall efficiency and team goals. The RN also contributes to team leadership and the achievement of departmental and organizational objectives. What we are looking for: Education and Experience Minimum: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required, or eligibility to obtain certification within three months of hire. Minimum of one year of experience in critical care or post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) nursing preferred. Proficiency in computer and electronic medical record (EMR) systems required. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required, or eligibility to obtain certification within three months of hire. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-op teaching and assessments.
  • Function independently in the pre-op/outpatient area.
  • Perform independently Phase 2 PACU duties.
  • Perform independently Phase 1 PACU duties.
  • Demonstrate competency to administer moderate sedation for endoscopy procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to monitor patients for local procedures done in the operating room.
  • Serve as a technical subject-matter expert.
  • Utilize elements of the nursing process in delivery of care.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care.
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness in emergency situations.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance activities. Assist in data gathering analysis.
  • Demonstrate and practice strict infection control methods appropriate to surgical services.
  • Educate oneself on new nursing skills, technical procedures, and new infection control methods.
  • Assist with endoscopy recall and patient follow-up.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff.
  • Assist with the development and updating of policies, standing orders, and patient instructions.
  • Assist the Manager of Surgical Services in the clinical evaluation of professional and paraprofessional OP/PACU nursing staff.
  • Uphold and support established RHCC mission, goals, and policies.
  • This position includes scheduled call.
  • Promote service excellence by demonstrating polite, cooperative, and respectful behavior to both internal and external customers.
  • Assume responsibility for completing mandatory educational requirements.
  • Safeguard security and confidentiality of data/information according to HIPAA guidelines.
