The role of the Registered Nurse (RN) is to provide quality patient care by performing appropriate tests, specimen collections, immunizations and health assessments per clinic procedures and provide excellent communication to providers and business partners as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to rights of patient as identified within the institution. (Required proficiency)

  • Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, non-verbal and written methods. Ability to work collaboratively with others and promote through demonstration the effectiveness of teamwork. (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medication & immunization administration and equipment calibration. (Required proficiency)
  • Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required
  • Basic Life Support - BLS RQI, CPR or ACLS certifications may be required in lieu of or in addition to BLS depending on department. Must have within 90 days of hire.
  • Must complete training for PFT, DOT, Audio and phlebotomy within 1 year of hire.
  • Complies with all policies, standards, mandatory training and requirements of Stormont Vail Health
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
  • Experience in a clinic setting. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care and appropriately delegates tasks in accordance with the Kansas State Nurse practice act.
  • Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiological and cognitive status.
  • Administers prescribed medications and/or treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies.
  • Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment, examination and testing of patients.
  • Collects specimens and performs the following: phlebotomy, point of care testing (ie-urine drug testing and glucose), n95 respirator fit-testing, breath alcohol testing, pulmonary function testing, audiometry testing and vision screenings as required.
  • Documents in patient and department records in a timely, accurate and concise manner according to department standards.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Compiles tests and examination results.
  • Makes patient referrals when needed.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process (self, systems, environment, and instrumentation) in meeting outcomes.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient’s condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to provider.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established standards of care.
  • Practices effective problem identification and resolution as a method of sound decision making.
  • Greets patients and prepares them for provider examination.
  • Collects patient history information.
  • Instruct patients in collection of samples and tests.
  • Triages and refers incoming telephone calls.
  • Instructs patient regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Participates in system wide/department patient care quality improvement activities as well as standards development.
  • Participates actively in clinical education activities, including orientation of new employees and teaching student nurses.
  • Participates in nursing research activities.
  • Participates in development and attainment of system wide/department hospital goals.
  • Adheres to staffing and scheduling practices.
  • Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level and decision making as necessary and assertively seeks guidance in areas of question.
