About The Position

Participates in and supports the overall operation of the pharmacy technicians, including staffing and work assignments of the technicians. Serves as the liaison between the department and staff, information systems, physicians, patients, family, and other site staff. Performs pharmaceutical procedures for medication preparation and distribution that ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. Exercises sound judgment and has developed clinical skills to provide pharmaceutical support to the patient's plan of care based on the diagnosis in a timely manner. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure privacy and safety. May also be responsible for performing specific tasks and/or orient other staff to the department. The pharmacy technician serves as a Medication Management Navigator and supports the Oncology Pharmacotherapy Clinic by coordinating patient care and ensuring timely access to medications. This role is responsible for scheduling patient appointments, obtaining prior authorizations, managing medication acquisition processes, and other duties as needed. The navigator works closely with the Oncology Office and serves as a key resource for patients navigating complex insurance and medication requirements. Additionally, they provide operational support to the Advanced Practice Pharmacist, helping maintain efficient clinic workflows and a positive patient experience. Requires development of strong relationships with Pharmacist, patients and the office staff. Once relationships are established and training complete; incumbent could work from home 1 day a week.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program OR Met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration
  • PHRMTECHR-Registered Pharmacy Technician OR PHARMC-Certified Pharmacy Technician OR PHARMT-Pharmacy Technician OR PHARMI-Pharmacy Intern
  • 1 year recent relevant experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations and laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in prescribing, dispensing, and record keeping of medications.
  • Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission, Title XXII, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
  • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
  • General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), related pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC.
