Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of related medical office or clinic experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical insurance/office training.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients and give instructions
  • Good computer skills and typing
  • Must be able to work independently and be extremely dependable
  • Ability to be cross-trained for all front-end positions
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work in physician's office with IDX training a plus.
  • Training with medical coding and billing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Check in patients and update insurance information. If insurance has changed, obtain a copy of the new card and update in computer.
  • Have patient complete necessary forms prior to appointment: HIPAA, new patient forms.
  • Make sure valid referral is on file prior to the patient testing being performed.
  • 'Arrive' patient in Imagecast system. Print billing label, affix to encounter form, and have chart ready for medical assistant.
  • Answer, screen and triage phone calls. Take appropriate message and follow through on all patient requests.
  • Order supplies for front office - all office supplies including encounter forms.
  • Open mail and distribute to appropriate persons.
  • Send out reminders and directions to patients.
  • File necessary information and correspondence into patient charts.
  • Collect co-pay for patient visit, and fill out receipt.
  • Schedule patient's next appointment.
  • Schedule all patient in-house testing i.e. echocardiograms, nuclear studies, holter monitors requested by physician.
  • Schedule all outside patient referrals for necessary testing as ordered by physician
  • Make sure encounter form has appropriate box checked for billing purposes.
  • Collect/reconcile encounter forms and forward to New Haven for charge entry.
  • Contact other doctor offices for case related information, as requested by physician.
  • Adheres to general standards of performance and conduct that conforms with Hospital policy so that the best possible patient care may be provided to the patient
  • Other duties as assigned.
