About The Position

Join TriHealth as an Infusion Pharmacy Technician - Certified, where you'll play a key role in supporting safe and accurate medication preparation and distribution within our Ambulatory Infusion Centers. This advanced position involves sterile compounding-including chemotherapy and hazardous medications-inventory management, and ensuring compliance with USP 797/800 standards. We're looking for a proactive, detail-oriented technician committed to quality care and patient safety. Work Hours: Full-time, 80 hours biweekly Day shift No weekends or holidays Job Overview: An Advanced Pharmacy Technician - Ambulatory Infusion plays an essential role in the medication use process in our TriHealth Infusion Center Pharmacies. The technician assists pharmacists in providing safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution and pharmaceutical care within the Infusion Centers. The Advanced Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the preparation of sterile compounds, including chemotherapy/hazardous medications, drug and supply inventory control, and continuous monitoring the sterile compounding area for compliance, providing timely remediation, alerting leadership to any identified issues. This position requires a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of pharmaceutical care, compliance with regulations and standards (USP 797, 800, NIOSH), as well as a commitment to quality care and patient safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 1 - 2 years Previous Pharmacy Technician experience required (Required)
  • Experience compounding sterile chemotherapy and hazardous products.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT). Approved certification is through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR ExCPT Certification by the National Healthcareer Association is required.
  • Required to be registered with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)
  • 3 - 4 years Sterile compounding experience preferred.
  • PTCB Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) Certification is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for compounding of sterile products Accurately and efficiently prepares both hazardous and non-hazardous compounded sterile products (CSP) using aseptic technique Calculates and verifies compounding instructions for each patient, following master formulation records Utilizes EPIC dispense prep, hardware, and/or software workflows to scan, photograph, and prepare sterile products Follows all pharmacy department policies and procedures for safe handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous drugs
  • Responsible for maintaining a sterile and compliant environment inside of the hoods, cleanroom, and anteroom Follows policies and procedures for garbing PPE, hand hygiene, and daily/weekly/monthly cleaning Documents daily/weekly/monthly cleaning after completing each task. Escalates to Pharmacy Leadership and Compounding Quality Compliance Team when tasks cannot be completed or are missed. Continuously monitors room and hood pressures, room temperature, and refrigerator temperature. Immediately reports out of range temperatures and pressures to Pharmacy Leadership and Compounding Quality Compliance Team. Completes and documents remdedial room and hood cleanings under the direction of Pharmacy Leadership and/or Compounding Quality Compliance Team. Compliance will be tracked via completion of logs and routine environmental sampling (air and surface).
  • Responsible for inventory management and control Manages drug and supply inventory through Omnicell to maintain adequate supply levels and achieve cost-saving inventory control Reconciles invoices for drugs and supplies Ensures safe and appropriate storage of medications (refrigerator, room temperature, secured) Monitors expiration dates of drugs, removes them from inventory Handles medication recalls, including removing them from inventory Maintains accurate controlled substance inventory
  • Demonstrates competency in non-hazardous and hazardous sterile compounding through routine competencies (written and observational), periodic audits, and rounding visits. Observational checklists, growth media plates and media-filled bags/vials will be used to validate practices. This includes but is not limited to: hand hygiene and garbing, appropriate use of PPE while handling hazardous drugs, cleaning, disinfecting, and decontamination of hoods, rooms, and equipment, maintaining asepetic technique while compounding, utilization of closed system transfer devices for hazardous drug compounding, and appropriate disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous waste
