About The Position

The Director of Ambulatory Nursing provides strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for ambulatory nursing services. This role is accountable for nurse-sensitive outcomes and nurse-driven services, nursing practice standards, quality, safety, regulatory compliance, workforce development, and operational excellence within ambulatory settings. The Director partners with operations and executive nursing leadership to design and implement high-reliability, patient-centered, and value-driven care delivery models that improve outcomes, access, and experience while ensuring regulatory and accreditation compliance. The Director of Nursing serves as a clinical resource regarding Ambulatory Patient Standards and Quality Improvement. The Director ensures the delivery of quality, cost-effective care that meets clinical standards of practice and that complies with all regulatory requirements. In addition, the Director determines clinical staff qualifications, efficiently deploys resources and oversees training needs. Through effective collaboration with staff and the application of TQM principles, the Director supports quality improvement efforts and standardization across departments and divisions. This position participates in the long-term planning process and supports the organization’s strategic direction through effective administration. The Director recommends and implements policy and practices, regulatory requirements, changing business environments and community needs. The Director develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of Clinical services. The Director participates in determining the qualifications and competence of clinical staff and monitors and approves programs and services to meet consumer needs. Director demonstrates accessibility and responsiveness to other team members and provides timely and adequate feedback to team members. Director also promotes participatory management and develops a cohesive work unit. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or active pursuit within six months of assuming position required.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey or current multi-state license required.
  • American Heart Association BLS required upon hire or transfer.
  • 5-7 years combined nursing and management experience required.
  • Solid understanding of evidence-based practice, process and performance improvement, organizational vision and values, strong interpersonal and communication skills and budgetary management skills required.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.

Nice To Haves

  • National certification preferred.
  • Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and the skill will be required 30-60 days from date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain standards of ambulatory nursing practice
  • Champion and implement evidence-based care.
  • Ensure clinical staff practice within scope, licensure, and professional standards.
  • Lead implementation of clinical policies, protocols, workflows, and care models including but not limited to telehealth, nurse triage, navigation, population health, and nurse-managed services.
  • Promote nurse-sensitive quality indicators, patient safety, and continuous performance improvement.
  • Provide oversight of quality, patient safety, environment of care, and regulatory readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation, regulatory, and professional standards.
  • Align ambulatory nursing strategy with organizational and system strategic priorities.
  • Lead performance and process improvement initiatives.
  • Champion and implement care delivery models, staffing models, and workflows to support access, efficiency, and value-based care.
  • Participate in long-range planning, policy development, and operational integration across ambulatory settings.
  • Maintain strong fiscal responsibility for nurse-sensitive and nurse-driven services.
  • Lead orientation, competency validation, preceptorship, and ongoing professional development.
  • Support professional governance, professional practice models, and nurse empowerment.
  • Collaborate with operations and HR for nursing workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and talent development.
  • Model organizational mission, vision, and values.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, inclusion, collaboration, and patient-centered care.
  • Serve as a visible, accessible leader and role model for interdisciplinary teams.
