About The Position

The Ambulatory Clinical Tech acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Provider or Registered Nurse (RN) in the examination and treatment of patients to facilitate clinic flow and provide excellent patient care. This role performs basic skills according to department guidelines and policies and communicates observations to members of the health care team. The tech provides support to facilitate safe, quality patient care consistent with clinical policies, procedures, and department standard work. Responsibilities include serving as a chaperone during sensitive examinations, providing input in individualized plans of care, identifying and notifying patients of health maintenance gaps, and accurately documenting in the electronic health record. The tech actively participates in safety initiatives, including the use of assistive devices for patient mobilization and transfers, hand hygiene, and patient identification. They collect patient medication history, allergies, risk screenings, medical history, and vital signs, reporting this information to the RN or Provider. The role also involves collecting samples (e.g., urine, stool), performing minor tests like Point of Care tests and Electrocardiograms for provider interpretation, assisting with stocking supplies, cleaning patient environments/work areas/equipment, and communicating equipment malfunctions. The tech performs and documents results of required clinical logs and CLIA waived laboratory tests, including quality control procedures, maintaining temperature logs, and eyewash stations. The position requires demonstrating high moral and ethical behavior, committing to continuous improvement of the patient experience, advocating for privacy and confidentiality, and adhering to organizational values and policies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required
  • Or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Provider or Registered Nurse (RN) in the examination and treatment of patients to facilitate clinic flow and provide excellent patient care.
  • Performs basic skills per department guidelines and policies; communicates observations to members of the health care team.
  • Provides support to facilitate safe, quality patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider, consistent with clinical policies, procedures and department standard work.
  • May serve as a chaperone, an impartial observer during a sensitive examination or procedure.
  • Provides input in the development of an individualized plan of care.
  • Identifies health maintenance gaps for patients; notifies patients of existing health maintenance gaps.
  • Documents in the electronic health record; documentation is performed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate, including, but not limited to: use of assistive devices for patient mobilization and transfers, hand hygiene, and confirmation of patient using at least two patient identifiers.
  • Collects patient reported medication history, allergies, risk screenings along with medical history; reports information to Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
  • Collects and reports vital signs as delineated by a Registered Nurse (RN) or Provider.
  • Collects samples, including, but not limited to: urine and stool.
  • Performs minor testing for provider interpretation, including, but not limited to: Point of care tests, Electrocardiogram, etc
  • Assists with stocking of supplies and cleans patient’s environment/work area/equipment; communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department/unit personnel.
  • Performs and documents the results of required clinical logs and CLIA waived laboratory tests; including but not limited to: performing routine quality control procedures, maintaining temperature logs and eyewash stations, etc.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior.
  • Commits to continuous improvement of the patient experience which includes patient safety, quality of care and excellent service.
  • Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.
