The clinical pharmacy specialist supports the vision, mission, and goals of YNHHS and the Department of Pharmacy and demonstrates proficiency in all clinical pharmacist skills. The clinical pharmacy specialist must have met all general requirements of the clinical pharmacist and clinical pharmacist II positions, in addition to requirements as set forth by the department Career Ladder EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy with a B.S. or PharmD degree
  • Five years of relevant post-graduate experience is required, with at least one year in specialty area. If PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency trained, each residency year is equivalent to two years of post-graduate experience.
  • Current Connecticut Pharmacist License, or eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of Connecticut
  • This individual should demonstrate in depth knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics, and understand pharmacy systems of drug distribution and formulary management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with others are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Achievement of board certification in area of specialty or specialty pharmacy certification is preferred.
  • Experience in drug utilization review and data analysis is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Customer Service Quality
  • Demonstrate and promote CHAMP behaviors

  • Conduct timely, accurate medication order review that considers all patient characteristics including laboratory values and vital signs
  • Medication Preparation and Distribution
  • Demonstrate competency in pharmacy automation and technology as applicable to work area
  • Medication Safety, Regulatory Affairs, and Quality Assurance
  • Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines, identifying barriers to compliance and implementing proposed solutions
  • Leadership
  • Provide education and training to other pharmacy staff members, pharmacy students and residents, and health care team members, via educational inservices and as a primary preceptor
  • Financial/Volume Results
  • Contribute to departmental cost-reduction or revenue generation, including generation and implementation of ideas for departmental cost-savings or revenue generation
