Ambulatory Clinic Assistant Department: 34316 Advocate South Suburban Hospital - Diabetic Education Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 36 Schedule Details/Additional Information: No weekends or holidays. Days Pay Range $20.80 - $31.20 Major Responsibilities: Patient Care 3)Performs initial work-up of patients by taking intake and assistng patient to complet intial paper work and documents the results in the medical record. 4)Performs various tasks based on department need. Performs waived testing such as glucometer, HgbA1C. 5)Assures medical record data i.e., results of tests, x-ray and consults are included in medical record for the physician to review during the visit. • Maintains and prepares instruments and equipment for physician use during the exam. • Requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to adult (19 through 64 years), and geriatric (65 years and older) patients. Requires communication skills necessary to interpret age-specific response to patients. 6)Follows the referral approval process. 7)Inform other clinical staff of phone calls that are beyond scope of service. 8)Notifies appropriate clinical staff regarding patient needs and changes in patient’s condition which requires expertise scope of practice 9)Coordinates transportation of patients to/from appointment as needed. Works with the Social Services and Case Management to assure that patients have appropriate transportation arrangements to promote continuity of care. Makes external calls to transportation services, insurance companies, families, and community resources independently to coordinate this. 1)Anticipates need for and completes, accurately and thoroughly forms and paper work as necessary. 2)Accurately processes orders through the electronic medical record and transports specimens to lab as needed. 10)Assists patients/families with scheduling appointments. Provides instructions for upcoming appointments and procedures. Clerical responsibilities 1)Handles high volume of calls and triages those calls appropriately. 2)Maintains organization of patient files in the paper and electronic medical record, including electronic importing of documents, scanning records, and faxing correspondence to referring practices and other departments. 3)Scheduling of patient correctly with approriate discipline. Assure referrals are correct in the system. 4)Performs data input to keep registries up to date to support professionals in the clinic. Organization and maintenance of medical supplies for the clinic areas, including exam rooms and laboratory to meet patient and physician needs 1) Orders supplies to assure clinics needs are met and anticipated for. 2) Restocks and cleans exam rooms pre and post visits. 3) Reports need to reoder supplies to the APN/Dietician or Director orManager as needed. Clinic responsibilities 1) Assists in orientation of new staff. 2) Participates in development and implementation of clinical policies/procedures. 3) Assists in creating environment of continuous improvement, by participating in CQI teams, performing data collection and attending meetings on quality improvement. 4)Assists in trackin volumes for the clinic Developmental Responsibilities 1) Maintains current competencies specific to their practice. 2) Attends in-service and other professional development opportunities. Education/Experience Required: 2-3 years medical clerical assistant in healthcare and/or ambulatory setting experience. Experience with special populations preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: • Clinically appropriate skills. • Excellent communication skills • Excellent organization skills • Self Starter• N/A Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 1) Ability to access patients and respond in a timely manner 2) Exposure to unidentified infectious cases 3) Exposure to body fluids and blood 4) Ability to work varying shifts to meets needs of center. 5) Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations. 6) Physical demands are moderate. Occasional lifting, bending and stooping or sitting. Normal office environment where there is minimal or no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust or noise. Equipment utilized includes basic office equipment designed for use with ambulatory patients as well as emergency medical equipment. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
