About The Position

The Ambulatory Care Pharmacist at Kaiser Permanente is responsible for providing customer-focused pharmaceutical care, overseeing the dispensing and processing of prescriptions, and ensuring optimal drug information is communicated to patients and healthcare providers. This role involves participating in educational programs, managing pharmacy technician staff, and maintaining compliance with legal and departmental procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year experience as a pharmacist in an outpatient clinic, hospital, or retail pharmacy.
  • Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Pharmacist License (Maryland)
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification
  • Basic Life Support certification
  • Ability to interpret and understand prescriptions and execute all pharmacist functions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Home IV experience preferred
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy residency program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze patient care and service needs to achieve high customer satisfaction and organizational initiatives.
  • Review prescribed medications and dosages for safety and effectiveness, utilizing patient profiles to identify drug allergies and interactions.
  • Process and label prescriptions accurately, compounding and dispensing medications as needed.
  • Provide advice and consultation to patients regarding side effects, drug interactions, and proper medication use.
  • Monitor patient compliance and response to drug therapy to improve outcomes.
  • Communicate with providers to promote formulary medications and document clinical interventions.
  • Operate automated systems for prescription order entry and maintain proper medication records.
  • Serve as a liaison to the clinical care team, addressing medication-related issues and fostering interdepartmental coordination.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing education and assist in training pharmacy students and technicians.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects to enhance service efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Engage in vaccination activities, administering and recording vaccines in patient health records.
