About The Position

The Ambulance Driver - Non-EMT Driver is responsible for providing efficient and timely transportation of sick and injured individuals to medical facilities, nursing homes, and medical appointments, specifically for Basic Life Support (BLS) calls. This role is crucial in ensuring that patients receive the necessary medical attention in a safe and timely manner, adhering to local, state, national, and Acadian Ambulance standards. The driver operates the ambulance or shuttle vehicle, which is used interchangeably for non-emergency, ambulatory patients, and must be paired with a medical provider who holds at least an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. In this position, the driver must assist in the handling of patients, ensuring their safe transfer to and from the ambulance. After each transport, the driver is responsible for sanitizing the vehicle and equipment, removing soiled linens, and reporting any deficiencies in the ambulance for repair. The driver must also conduct regular inspections of the ambulance, checking fuel, oil, and other essential fluids to ensure the vehicle is in optimal condition for operation. The role requires the driver to operate the ambulance safely, following company driving guidelines to protect the safety of all occupants. Additional responsibilities include completing assigned cleaning duties for the ambulance and performing other driving-related tasks as needed. This position may involve working in various environmental conditions, including hazardous situations, and requires a strong commitment to safety and patient care.
