About The Position

The position provides communication and administrative support between the hospital and internal/external customers for the patient conveyance area by utilizing interventional and critical thinking skills. The role ensures continuous and effective service of the patient conveyance system and serves as the first point of contact for both internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 6 months as a dispatcher in a relevant field (EMS/Clinical background preferred).
  • Tech-savvy with knowledge of computer aided dispatch software (CAD).
  • Advanced data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of procedures and guidelines for emergency situations.
  • Proficient in English (oral and written).
  • Outstanding organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Active listener with excellent communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking.
  • Emergency Medical Technician training and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Receives incoming calls from customers; prioritizes, dispatches and follows up to completion.
  • Evaluates all potential problems and situations from incoming phone calls or from the monitoring of all computer-aided dispatch management systems and other related communication mediums.
  • Provides clerical support to the EMS administration, including scheduling meetings, reporting and tracking incident reports, and assisting with shift coverages.
  • Maintains situational awareness and notifies EMS administration of specific and evolving situations in the community (high impact events).
  • Contributes to continuous performance improvement activities.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Answers all incoming telephone calls and routes calls promptly as appropriate within the service.
  • Maintains two-way radio communication with all field staff and operates the computer aided dispatch (CAD) equipment.
  • Books and documents all emergent and non-emergent requests for service.
  • Relays requests for service to appropriate resources.
  • Tracks and strategically deploys all transportation resources with CAD and maintains equipment within the communications center.
  • May participate in orientation of new employees.
  • Recommends change and provides feedback to supervisory staff to ensure smooth operation of the system.
  • Maintains communications center in neat condition.
  • Maintains an ample amount of the appropriate paperwork copies from the master book needed for ambulance and wheelchair calls.
  • Contacts all facilities for the next day to verify scheduled trips, including the location of pick up, drop off location, wheelchair needed, bariatric, etc.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
