About The Position

This position is responsible for all technical direction of locally produced programming including news broadcasts, commercials, promotions, public services productions, and special events both live and pre-recorded.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to move quickly in tight spaces throughout the building and on location.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to listen and understand information presented through spoken and written words.
  • Excellent manual dexterity to manipulate computer keys and other controls in studios.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions under strict timelines and pressure situations.
  • Ability to read and understand information presented in writing.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and come up with ideas and suggestions.
  • Vision to distinguish between controls on board and scripts.

Responsibilities

  • Direct live and taped programming within format guidelines including newscasts, commercial production, and station promotions.
  • Operate board and assume responsibility for newscasts and other programs.
  • Read, study, and research scripts to determine how they should be directed.
  • Confer and collaborate with managers, crew members, on-air talent, and producers to discuss details of production.
  • Ensure all aspects of the program are complete before the program begins.
  • Plan details such as framing, composition, camera movement, and sound for each shot or scene.
  • Establish pace of newscasts and sequences of segments according to time requirements and accessibility.
  • Handle last minute and unexpected changes in a professional manner during live broadcasts.
  • Maintain high knowledge of equipment and notify Operations Manager of equipment needs and problems.
  • Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day work of news production staff.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of people including on-air talent, visitors, production crew, and management.
  • Understand and articulate the station's programming direction and philosophies.
  • Report to work on time and work established schedule/hours.
