About The Position

This position is part of a job family responsible for providing direct and indirect non-professional nursing care or outreach services in various settings such as a clinic, hospital, institution, or home, under nursing or medical supervision. Duties include taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, charting, escorting patients, assisting with daily living activities, and managing supplies. This specific role, AM PCA III, is considered the specialist level within this job family, requiring the employee to perform more complex patient care tasks and advanced duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the English language to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of public health services available to the community.
  • Knowledge of record keeping.
  • Knowledge of the techniques of interviewing.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic methods of sanitation and personal hygiene.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to record observations and activities.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to apply basic nursing techniques.
  • Ability to judge a situation accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Two years of experience in providing patient care.
  • For Department of Veterans Affairs positions at Level III, current certification in good standing by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a (CMA-A) Certified Medication Aide Advanced is required.
  • Some positions may require the possession of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
  • Some positions may require possession of a Class C (CDL) Commercial Drivers License at the time of appointment.
  • For Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services applicants, must submit to a physical examination and shall meet the physical examination requirements of occasionally lifting/carrying 50 pounds and able to push and pull a maximum force of 25 pounds.
  • For the Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse, the required years of experience must be in the behavioral health field.

Responsibilities

  • Performs direct nursing tasks including taking vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living and hygiene needs, and obtaining certain lab specimens.
  • Charts observations and activities, reporting pertinent changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Performs delegated or other specialized functions as educationally prepared.
  • Escorts patients to and from various destinations.
  • Assists in maintaining and providing a clean, safe environment.
  • Orders, receives and stores supplies and performs basic clerical functions.
  • Participates in follow-up activities and tracking clients, schedules appointments and performs other related tasks.
  • Provides case finding and recruitment of at risk persons for comprehensive health services.
