About The Position

The Alumni Relations Officer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is responsible for enhancing alumni engagement and advancement support for the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Department of Communication Arts. This role involves planning and executing various alumni events and initiatives, ensuring that alumni and donors remain informed, connected, and engaged with the university. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, non-profit management, or related field.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in event planning and management.
  • Experience managing event marketing and communications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience collaborating on teams.

  • Higher education or nonprofit experience.
  • Experience gathering and analyzing data to report impact and inform decision making.
  • Experience in development/fundraising.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategy for alumni engagement aligned with advancement goals.
  • Execute engagement tactics to achieve unit objectives and track alumni engagement metrics and outcomes.
  • Work closely with unit marketing and communications staff to ensure effective strategy and brand alignment.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including alumni, faculty and staff, and vendors.
  • Manage timelines to ensure successful execution of all aspects of each engagement.
  • Manage registration, marketing, and communication for virtual and in-person engagements, including on-site event management as needed.
  • Plan event marketing strategies to drive attendance and engagement, including email campaigns and social media promotion.
  • Prepare pre- and post-event reports, detailing budget, attendance statistics, suggested improvements, etc.
  • Engage with unit alumni boards, including meeting planning, communications, and recruitment.
  • Work closely with unit leadership and Director of Development on donor relations and annual giving events.
