About The Position

The Alloy Bushing Engineer at Owens Corning is responsible for designing and developing bushing components critical to the fiberglass manufacturing process. This role involves utilizing advanced engineering tools and techniques to optimize bushing performance, enhance alloy efficiency, and support large-scale manufacturing operations. The engineer will also conduct simulations and experiments to validate designs and improve understanding of fiberizing processes.

Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical design and engineering documentation.
  • Proficiency in advanced Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools.
  • Knowledge of multi-physics Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for analysis of bushing designs.
  • Experience with analytical and Finite Element structural analysis of components.
  • Understanding of fiberizing process physics and mechanical design processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with precious metal alloys, specifically platinum/rhodium alloys.
  • Familiarity with laboratory methods for testing operational hypotheses and solutions.
  • Ability to develop new or improved simulation techniques for thermal and structural modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Live the OC Safety stand and adhere to the safety responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to employee health and safety, particularly through a commitment to zero injuries, awareness of hazards, and a strong understanding of legislative requirements in all aspects of the operation.
  • Develop bushing designs and hardware package for the plants.
  • Create designs driven by performance, bushing life, increased throughput, metal savings, and/or business reasons.
  • Develop and oversee mechanical drawing packages with appropriate standards and tolerancing.
  • Check and approve production drawings.
  • Develop vendors for new applications and materials as necessary.
  • Work with Support team to troubleshoot/solve problems.
