About The Position

SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a part-time Allied Health Care Training Instructor. Reporting to the Project Director, the Allied Health Care Training Instructor will deliver the clinical and vocational component of a curriculum designed to assist students build knowledge and clinical skills aimed at passing the licensing exam for Certified Nurse' Aide (C.N.A.), as well as become certified as a Home Health Aide (H.H.A.) and a Personal Care Assistant (P.C.A.). Teach classes and provide supervision of trainees during clinical training. Assist students in registering for the New York State C.N.A. licensing exam, and administer certifications for the H.H.A. on the New York State registry. The instructor must possess the ability to work with students from different socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. The instructor should have insight into students' current circumstances and goals. The Allied Health Care Training Instructor supervises trainees during clinical training.

Requirements

New York State Professional Registered Nurse License
Associate Degree in Nursing
Certification to teach Nurse's Aide or Practical Nursing; OR Two years' experience teaching nurse' aide in a residential health care facility; OR Completion of the NYS approved "Train the Trainer" program
Minimum two years of nursing experience caring for the elderly and/or chronically ill in an institutional setting or in private care
Minimum one year of provision of home health care services
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations
Excellent organizational skills
Skilled in teaching adult learners
Willingness to work on a flexible schedule to meet educational requirements
Possess strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
Knowledge of HIPAA regulations
Ability to perform physical work with patients and students in a clinical setting as well as in private homes
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time while providing training in class, labs and clinical settings
Occasionally moves medical equipment weighing up to 20 Lb.
Ability to work evenings and weekends if required

Responsibilities

Deliver the curriculum based on health related vocational content materials to meet the needs of adult learners and assist them to successfully obtain certifications as Certified Nurse's Aide, Home Health Aide, and Personal Care Assistant.
Deliver the curriculum based on skill sets as mandated by the New York State Education Department and to build knowledge and develop clinical skills aimed at assisting students to obtain the C.N.A. license, as well as the H.H.A. and P.C.A. certification.
Deliver additional training in the areas of Palliative Care, Traumatic Brain Injury and Nursing Home Transition and Diversion leading to the issuance of certifications and deliver them in conjunction with C.N.A. and H.H.A. courses In conjunction with the on-site Program Coordinator, develop schedules for clinical rotations at various facilities as well as schedules for clinical support staff.
Supervise students during clinical training rotations; supervise and train the clinical support staff on an as needed basis.
Evaluate and revise the curriculum to meet state and federal requirement and address the needs of the students.
Evaluate students' clinical progress regularly including using standardized assessment tools.
Maintain accurate records on all students, including but not limited to items mandated by the NYS Department of Education such as attendance records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
Evaluate and document students' progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained.
Communicate effectively with students, fellow team members, including staff at clinical training facilities, SCCC staff, and prospective employers.
Prepare and deliver lectures on healthcare related topics for the program in Community Health Worker on an as needed basis.
Provide a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skills development, and concepts of good patient care.
Instructor is required to adhere to the rules and regulations of the New York State Department of Health with regards to immunizations and seasonal vaccinations.
