This is done within the limits of clinical knowledge, education, experience and ethical, legal standards of care. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card. Will be required to maintain a current CPR certification during employment.
  • If a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN): Current licensure as a in the State of Texas. Will be required to maintain a current vocational nursing license during employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program or from an accredited school of vocational nursing.
  • Experience in an ambulatory, acute care setting, or Allergy specialty office, to include performing allergy testing, or administering allergy injections.
  • Experience mixing/compounding allergy serum, chemicals, or medications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient serum and vials for all Allergists.
  • Receives orders for new serum sets and refill requests from all clinics system-wide.
  • Confirms and checks the orders for accuracy within 24-48 business hours, produces and sends out requested items within ten business days. Including receiving orders, preparing trays to be made, making the actual serum (using ASEPTIC Technique and following FDA/USP guidelines), appropriately charging out the vials, documenting vials in the Electronic Medical Records system (EMR), building immunotherapy log in EMR for new patients, packaging vials and routing them to appropriate destinations.
  • Prepares serum and venoms for both testing and treatment for all clinics system-wide.
  • Ensures vials arrive on time
  • Prepares instructions provided by the physicians and sends them with the testing and treatment vials.
  • Maintains log of all of airborne and food intradermals, including expiration dates.
  • Monitors stock of all serums, including stock bottles, intradermals, venoms, histatrol, pre-pens, vials, packaging boxes, and syringes for testing.
  • Properly labels and identifies all serum and venoms and any other items needed to run allergy serum lab efficiently.
  • Prepares allergy testing trays for clinical staff to use in patient testing.
  • Refills testing trays as needed and replaces trays when necessary.
  • Monitors all vials kept in the allergy serum laboratory and discards any expired vials.
  • Follows disinfection protocols and protocols established by USP chapter 27.
  • Works in conjunction with laboratory management to ensure proper compliance of serum laboratory.
  • Maintains quarterly log of vaccines charged out by physician and sends out quarterly logs to the physician and the Management Team for review.
  • Serves as the primary contact for all allergy serum orders.
  • Assures that the integrity and safety of the serum laboratory is maintained.
  • Must complete an annual test that covers serum mixing/compounding skills.
  • Must complete frequent check-offs that are pertinent to this position.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.
  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.
  • Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
  • Works with other clinical staff to perform allergy testing and administer allergy injections, as needed.
  • Works with clinical staff and allergists to assist in rooming procedures when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
