About The Position

The Allergy Nurse at Brigham & Women's Hospital is a part-time registered nurse responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients with allergies and complex needs. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care in various outpatient settings, including the Allergy Clinic and other off-site locations. The nurse will administer allergen immunotherapy, conduct allergy testing, and educate patients on allergen management and medication use. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a professional nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required for newly licensed nurses.
  • 5 years of experience in an ambulatory outpatient office visit setting.
  • Current or recent pediatric experience required.
  • Experience in Allergy care and procedural experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience with telephone triage.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge and experience in administration of allergen immunotherapy/desensitization.
  • Experience with allergy testing methods (patch/puncture, scratch, intradermal).
  • Experience with oral challenge techniques for foods and medications.
  • Knowledge of mixing and dilution of allergen extracts.
  • Experience with pre and post bronchodilator spirometry.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for assigned patients.
  • Administer allergen immunotherapy and perform allergy testing.
  • Educate patients and families on allergen environmental control measures and medication use.
  • Triage patient telephone calls and communicate changes in management to physicians.
  • Maintain perpetual inventory of samples and dispense as directed by physicians.
  • Document patient care clearly and in compliance with nursing standards.
  • Participate in departmental quality management and improvement programs.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
