About The Position

The Advanced Practice Provider (APRN / PA) is responsible for providing direct patient care and office procedures under direct, and at times, general supervision of the physician.

Requirements

  • Successful Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Licensure (or in the process of obtaining licensure) in the state of Florida as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Active DEA license not required prior to hire; however, supervising physician will communicate if this is required and the protocols for utilization.
  • New graduates are welcome and considered for this position.
  • Experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients with courtesy and respect. Answer questions and direct requests appropriately and efficiently.
  • Provide direct patient care in the office, under the direction and in accordance with supervising physician.
  • Document care provided in the office setting within 24 hours.
  • Provide physician examination(s).
  • Obtain patient medical, social and family history, drug allergies, current medications and vital signs.
  • Set up and provide/assist with office surgical procedures; remove sutures, staples, change dressings.
  • Establish presumptive diagnoses and be responsible under the physician's supervision for the management of the patient's problems following diagnosis.
  • Initiate appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special examinations for tests required for the evaluation of illness and prepared written summary of care.
  • Communicate with patients by phone or letter regarding their problems, after consultation with the supervising physician.
  • Review patient records and educate patient(s) and family members regarding visit, examination, treatment and medications, side effects, procedures (including written pre and post-op care) and testing.
  • Answer incoming telephone calls as needed and take message if appropriate and document.
  • Determine status of patient's symptoms and direct care accordingly.
  • Schedule all surgeries on physician schedule and with concerned facilities, assistant physicians, etc.
  • Schedule pre-operative x-rays and laboratory work.
  • Report laboratory and x-ray results to patient, after physician instruction.
  • Prescribe and/or adjust prescription medications, in accordance with education and management protocols.
  • Adjust schedules according to physician's request.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments.
  • Anticipate departmental needs and improve office efficiency by assisting other staff as necessary.
  • Complete office/hospital charge slips with appropriate diagnosis/CPT code and submit for data entry.
  • In absence of physician, the APRN/PA is the responsible provider in the office, per physician agreement.
  • Assist in the training of health care personnel in certain diagnostic, therapeutic and clinical techniques, as directed by the supervising physician.
  • As a role model in the department, the APRN/PA must remain professional at all times.
  • Maintain all licenses and certifications, including maintaining the prescribed hours of medical education program attendance.
  • Maintain compliance with attached collaborative agreement with physician and MCC.
