About The Position

The Algebra I Teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous, standards-based mathematics instruction that builds upon foundational algebra concepts and prepares students for advanced mathematics courses, standardized assessments, and college and career readiness. The teacher fosters analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and mathematical reasoning in a supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or related field
  • Valid state teaching certification in Secondary Mathematics
  • Strong content knowledge in advanced algebra and related mathematical disciplines
  • Ability to explain complex mathematical concepts clearly and effectively
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and planning abilities
  • Commitment to student achievement and continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or Education
  • Experience teaching high school mathematics, particularly Algebra I
  • Familiarity with college readiness standards (e.g., ACT/SAT alignment)
  • Experience with differentiated instruction and data-driven decision-making

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Algebra I lessons aligned with state and district standards
  • Teach algebraic concepts, including: Real numbers and properties of operations Expressions, equations, and inequalities Solving linear equations and systems of equations Graphing and interpreting linear functions Introduction to functions and function notation Writing and solving quadratic equations Polynomials and factoring Exponents and exponential functions Data analysis, statistics, and introductory All other Algebra I Standards
  • Develop formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning
  • Analyze student performance data to inform instruction and intervention
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse academic needs
  • Incorporate technology (graphing calculators, math software, learning platforms) to enhance instruction
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and academic progress
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student performance
  • Collaborate with mathematics department staff on curriculum alignment and pacing
  • Participate in professional development and school initiatives
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
