About The Position

The Alert Team in the Crisis Care Center provides optimal care utilizing knowledge and skills within the context of evidence based psychiatric nursing practice and the theory of human caring. Nature and Scope The psychiatric registered nurse on the Alert Team must be able to work interdependently within a team framework and demonstrate competency with mental health/chemical dependency assessment, interventions, and referral. The incumbent must provide optimal care through assessment, planning and evaluation of adult and geriatric patients and their families. The incumbent plays a crucial role in crisis intervention, patient education, and discharge planning. Crisis intervention includes training to provide optimal care for patients experiencing psychiatric emergencies including suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, aggressive behaviors. The incumbent must be competent in the use of de-escalation techniques and providing immediate support using evidence-based practice to stabilize patients. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. The incumbent must be able to initiate contact with internal and external resources on behalf of the client. Working knowledge of the 12-step recovery process, and the ability to empower clients to use their own internal resources as well as to access relevant external services is essential. This person must demonstrate the ability to collaborate with patients and their families and various caregivers in different settings. This person must have thorough knowledge of community resources and be capable of making appropriate referrals. This position provides direct patient care including assessment, documentation, patient education, care planning, counseling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, case management, and medication management.

Requirements

  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Two years of experience in applying behavioral health / chemical dependency clinical care and recovery services to psychiatric and/or chemical dependency setting required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.
  • Current BLS certification by The American Heart Association standards required at time of hire.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
