About The Position

The Alcohol and Substance Abuse Treatment Program Assistant will provide ongoing treatment services to incarcerated individuals with substance use disorders. The role involves developing treatment findings and conclusions based on an admission and comprehensive evaluation, establishing a substance use disorder diagnostic impression, and developing and implementing a person-centered treatment plan for each assigned incarcerated individual. The assistant will continually evaluate and document the level and quality of participation and progression towards reasonably applied goals for each incarcerated individual, ensuring successful treatment. The position requires collaboration with other facility staff and providing services in a variety of treatment modalities to assist the incarcerated individual in addiction rehabilitation. Services include recruiting, screening, orientation, assessment, treatment planning and reviewing, coordinating educational and treatment services using various media, continuing recovery planning, and individual counseling.

Requirements

  • Current certification as a New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).
  • Current certification as a New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor Trainee (CASAC-T) and one year of post-certification qualifying experience.
  • Three years of qualifying experience in alcohol and/or substance abuse treatment.
  • An associate's degree (or higher) in an approved area may substitute for two years of experience.
