About The Position

The Grocery Manager exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all areas of the job, providing a superior quality product that exceeds customers' expectations. This role requires a working knowledge of department functions and maintaining an adequate amount of fresh inventory. Grocery Managers are primarily responsible for keeping and maintaining a fresh inventory, processing administrative paperwork, and maintaining accurate department records.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to frequently reach, lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and weights and measures.
  • Knowledge of product variety, standards, perishability, product handling, sanitation, labeling, and department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate telephone, pallet jack, hand truck, knives, scissors, safety cutters, and Sterilox machine.
  • Good attendance is required.

  • Experience in grocery management or retail management.
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom announcements, and one-on-one customer interaction.
  • Answers and responds to incoming calls appropriately. Receives and appropriately resolves customer complaints and reports to Store Director as needed.
  • Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
  • Plans daily operation, monitors production process following company procedures and profitability.
  • Builds Grocery displays, rotates and discards outdated or spoiled product. Ensures cleanliness of work area and department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays. Coordinates grocery sales promotions.
  • Ensures that merchandise is correctly priced and displayed and that shelves are clean and properly maintained.
  • Monitors employee productivity and evaluates overall performance.
  • Schedules employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.
  • Specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees.
  • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees.
  • Trains employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures.
  • Identifies and trains employees with high potential for advancement opportunities.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper code dating for all products within the department.
  • Initiates personnel actions such as pre-employment interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports. Physical inventory taken every 6 months.
  • Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.
  • Orders Grocery products and maintains inventory levels according to Division directives.
  • Controls shrink and cost.
  • Implements correct product preparation techniques.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying orders using invoices, inspecting quality, reporting shortages, stocking, and rotating product.
  • Ensures that proper temperature levels for product are maintained.
  • Complies with all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of work area, cooler, equipment, and display area.
  • Implements emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.
  • Attends and participates in sales meetings. Communicates sales goals, department performance, and sales opportunities to department employees.
  • Complies with and ensures compliance with company grooming standards and dress code.
  • Responsible for performing all job duties and responsibilities safely, accurately, and with honesty and integrity.
