About The Position

Overview Position Overview Serves as the technical liaison between various management, supervisory personnel, and frontline personnel in the management of a comprehensive and integrated Emergency Communications System. Performs a variety of technical duties related to the operations of the public safety technology, police and fire data systems, mobile devices, cameras, cellular telephones, etc. Job Functions Provide preventive maintenance of the servers and related systems; ensure that no alarms are present on server operating systems and resolve issues related to alarms; check operation of the storage area network for proper operation and resolve issues; check operation of the Public Safety Radio Systems, 911 system, and fire station alerting. Provide public safety systems troubleshooting; respond to daily requests for service; assist front line personnel having problems; troubleshoot back-end systems, as needed, and ensure systems are up to date, and assess mobile network activity and issues with vendors. Research and facilitate procurement of technology; prepare bid specifications for vendors and review vendor responses; prepare and/or assist with memos, and network with Management to ensure payment to vendors. Provide PC, laptop, and printer maintenance; repair, replace and trouble shoot issues, and provide user support. Assist the NORCOMM Operations group in coordinating the CAD and Learning Management database processes and procedures at both the system and workstation levels; formulate database queries for daily location, override reports; make necessary corrections to the CAD Geofile database; configure and maintain the CAD system dynamic options settings based on user needs and changes. Assist the NORCOMM Operations group coordinating and resolving interface and technical issues between the police and fire records for client agencies. Assist the NORCOMM Operations group in coordinating third party system maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements for all public safety systems; review upgrades and enhancements prior to installation to determine the potential impact on network and system users. Assist the NORCOMM Operations group in maintaining and updating all software licensing and documentation of computers and radio devices. Assists the NORCOMM Operations group/Superior IT team in performing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly backups. Works with other agencies and other departments of the Company on technology-based projects as needed in furtherance of the overall technology objectives. Complete special projects associated with, but not limited to the public safety radio system, video systems, weather warning sirens, and other technologies in use inside/outside the communications center. Identify and research areas requiring additional funding and prepare and/or assist with preparation of relevant documents to support the request for additional funding. Duties may occasionally be deleted, or additional duties may be assigned permanently or temporarily, to accomplish client agency and NORCOMM objectives.

  • Ability to attain an understanding of both NORCOMM and client department’s E911, CAD, Trunked Radio, and various technology systems.
  • Ability to make critical decisions in stressful circumstances given the knowledge of the systems to ensure continuity of services.
  • Can attain a comprehensive knowledge of the operation, principals, and practices of a 911 Police/Fire/EMS Emergency Communications Center and operations.
  • Able to work unusual or prolonged hours during emergencies situations.
  • Extensive and demonstrative knowledge of computer applications including but not limited to LEADS (law enforcement agency data systems).
