We are also developing the Bell 525 Relentless, Bell's Autonomous Pod Transport (APT), and Bell's High-Speed Vertical Take-Off and Landing (HSVTOL) program, a next generation stop-fold aircraft. Bell is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Military Aircraft Avionics Airworthiness Engineer to join Bell's Advanced Vertical Lift Systems team and support the FLRAA Bell program. The Airworthiness Engineer is responsible for establishing and managing compliance with joint Bell-USG aircraft airworthiness requirements on military programs. This role requires excellent communication, and coordination skills to meet program objectives. Airworthiness engineers are responsible for organizing, planning, conducting and successfully completing military airworthiness certification/qualification objectives throughout the lifecycle of the product. This position will deal with challenging, cutting-edge aircraft avionics technology. At Bell you will work with suppliers and customers, to meet mission requirements with the latest technology and modular architecture. This role will be an integral part of the team, working closely with customers and subcontractors. You'll be able to hone your technical abilities on significant engineering problems, all while gaining experience in leadership and communication. This position will report onsite at our Headquarters.

  • Performs technical airworthiness planning and verification support including development and negotiation of airworthiness certification plans, bases of certification, means of compliance, and other certification activities for complex total systems with IPTs as well as customer counterparts.
  • Reviews and coordinates with other airworthiness engineers as well as internal engineering disciplines performed across the total system to include design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Performs functional and process analyses, requirements allocation and definition studies to translate customer requirements into criteria and derived requirements.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness certification objectives into system solutions to meet program needs throughout the product lifecycle (e.g. Airworthiness Releases, Type certification, continued airworthiness, operations, and airspace integration).
  • Collaborates with IPTs and USG authority representatives to tailor Airworthiness Qualification Specifications, with a primary focus on Avionics.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining airworthiness evidence/artifacts in support of Airworthiness Releases (AWRs) and Air System Continued & Continuing Airworthiness.
  • Responsible for working closely with the Airworthiness Manager, Chief Engineer and Airworthiness Associate Tech Fellow to manage customer airworthiness demands and achieve milestone events.
  • Military airworthiness qualification/certification and/or flight/component test experience is preferred. Civil certification experience is acceptable.
  • Work experience developing Airworthiness Certification Plans and Airworthiness Certification Bases such as Airworthiness Qualification Specifications (AQSs), Tailored Airworthiness Certification Criteria (TACC) or Modified Airworthiness Certification Criteria (MACC) documents is desired.
  • Experience working with a military airworthiness authority such as the US Army Systems Readiness Directorate (SRD), the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) or the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) EN-EZ is desired.
  • Military aircraft development or modification experience on any ACAT program is also desired.
  • Familiarity with DoD Airworthiness guidance documents such as the MIL-HDBK-516C or Army Military Airworthiness Certification Criteria (AMACC) is a plus.
  • Design or Systems Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Avionics (preferred), Air Vehicle Systems, Mission Payload Integration, Flight Technology.
  • Work experience with domestic and international UAS/RPAs airworthiness authorizations is a plus.
  • Work experience with producing or evaluating evidence for airworthiness certification/qualification.
  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and/or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is preferred.
  • Excellent communicator must be able to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, internal and external suppliers, and brief leaders/customers.
  • You'll be off every other Friday with our 9/80 work schedule.
