About The Position

The purpose of this position is to assist the Airport Security Coordinator in planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of airport security. This position performs a wide variety of security and/or operations duties. The position works both independently and supervised and uses considerable independent judgment in dealing with difficult situations. The incumbent receives work assignments, instructions, and evaluations by the Airport Security Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three (1-3) years of prior related experience and/or training.
  • Prior airport security experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of airport security regulations, facilities, safety, access, and security procedures.
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and policies and procedures relating to airport security including Transportation Security Administration Part 1542.

Responsibilities

  • Performs security functions in the airport.
  • Answers calls and complaints involving routine contacts with airport tenants, airline operators, and the public.
  • Performs daytime and nighttime safety and security inspections of the airport operations area (AOA), Security Identification Display area (SIDA), Secured Area, and Sterile area prevents public entry, and documents discrepancies. Conducts security patrols, issues security challenges, and conducts vehicle security inspections.
  • Responds to Airport security emergencies.
  • Teaches classes, takes fingerprints, and performs other identification duties in the course of issuing security access identification media.
  • Enforces Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations and standard operating procedures related to airport security and safety.
  • Communicates with tenants, operators, airlines, and other airport divisions regarding routine security matters.
  • Operates computer-controlled security access system and monitors closed circuit television for violations of security and safety regulations.
  • Issues timely and accurate Notice to Air Missions (NOTAMs) reflecting conditions on and around the airfield.
  • Formulates and implements procedures for use in the event of airport security incidents
  • Prepares a variety of documents both written and electronic reports, including security inspections, badge applications, key issuance forms, etc.
  • Assists with the completion of all documentation related to the Airport Security Program (ASP) and logs all security activities on the airport.
  • Performs the duties of a City Officer as set forth in Charter Ordinance No. 39 to enforce Chapter 7, “Aviation”, of the City Code.
  • Assists with additional support duties as required.
  • Conducts airfield inspections during inclement weather conditions.
  • Coordinates snow removal activities and informs tenants and Airport users of airfield conditions.
  • Performs parking lot functions, complaint resolution, custodial duties, maintenance duties, and exit lane duties in terminal sterile areas as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
