About The Position

As the Airport Security Compliance Inspector, you will conduct inspections, testing, enforcement, and response activities to support the Airports Authority’s security program and ensure safe, secure, and efficient airport operations. Your work will contribute to the safe, secure, and efficient operation of aircraft and the airport. You will ensure compliance with the Airports Authority’s Security Program and Directives, Vehicle Control Program, airport-specific safety and security procedures, Transportation Safety Administration Regulations, and other federal regulations, while also supporting customer service and training initiatives. Serves in the Airport Operations Department – Security Division at either Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) or Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).

Requirements

Four years of progressively responsible experience in airport operations, airline or airline support operations, or performing security compliance and enforcement work such as personnel inspections, facility inspections, and other security duties at an airport.
Knowledge of and ability to comply with Federal, state, and local regulatory requirements governing airports.
Knowledge of and ability to apply airport management principles for a Category X airport or an airport with a total passenger volume of at least 6 million annually.
Ability to make detailed analyses of data and information and make recommendations.
Ability to understand the needs and priorities of airlines and tenants and the impact that disruption of operations due to construction has on all stakeholders.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Skill in using a computer and modern office suite software.
A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Education Development (GED).
A state driver’s license in good standing.

Nice To Haves

A Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management, Aerospace Engineering, Airway Science, Aviation, or a similar airport- or aviation-focused field of study.
Experience working in airport, airline, or airline support operations at a TSA Category X airport or as a 14 CFR Part 119, 14 CFR Part 135, or military aircraft pilot.
Experience in handling personally identifiable information (PII), processing data for criminal history record checks, fingerprinting, and security threat assessments.
Skill in identifying fraudulent or tampered identity documents.
Knowledge of and ability to operate access control systems, key control systems.
Knowledge of and ability to understand airline Use & Lease Agreements, concessions contracts, and operating permits.

Responsibilities

Patrols assigned portions of the airport on foot, by vehicle, or by other approved measures to ensure compliance with the Airport Security Program and federal regulatory requirements, and evaluates proposed changes in/to the restricted areas of Dulles airport to determine their impact or potential vulnerabilities.
Performs inspections of identifications, personnel, facilities, vehicles, goods, and services for prohibited items and/or other needs to ensure compliance with the Airport Security Program and Federal regulatory requirements.
Coordinates or conducts inspections, investigations, or corrective actions with other Federal and state agencies and airline officials.
Assists airline security representatives, tenants, concessionaires, and Airports Authority personnel with requirements of 49 CFR Part 1544.
Serves as an insider threat program coordinator and collaborates with TSA and other aviation stakeholders to establish an Insider Threat Working Group.
Assists in implementing measures that improve threat detection, assessment, and response.
Performs testing of security measures as directed to determine the effectiveness of security measures and/or to ensure compliance with the Airport Security Program.
Ensures proper operation of security infrastructure, including card readers, doors, electronic gates, signage, and vehicle identification and operation.
Conducts investigation, mitigation, and resolution of security incidents and concerns.
Takes immediate corrective action to contain potential threats or incidents, which may include confiscating ID badges or directing the removal of employees or contractors from the airport’s premises.
Issues violation notices in accordance with Orders and Instructions and coordinates with Police or other authorities as appropriate.
Documents problems, discrepancies, and non-complying conditions concerning 49 CFR Part 1540 and 1542 and tenant activities to appropriate parties and reports for follow-up actions; monitors progress of corrections; determines severity of discrepancies and priority for corrective actions.
Takes corrective action, files work orders for repairs, notifies the appropriate manager or coordinator, and files reports for airport facilities.
Directs tenant and Airport personnel to resolve safety or security issues and intercedes to mitigate tenant ramp operation disputes, seeking Airport Operations Duty Manager guidance or assistance to resolve complex issues.
Serves as first responder to airport emergencies and other significant events in the ramp or landside areas, taking control of the scene until relieved by a supervisor.
Conducts security training for Authorized Representatives of Airport Security Programs, monitors the services provided, and informs the Airport Security Compliance Manager and the Contracting Officer’s Technical Representative (COTR) of any concerns.
