About The Position

The Airport Police Service Officer is an entry-level position for those not certified as police officers. This position is responsible for performing a non-safety/enforcement support role within the Tulsa International Airport Police Department. Performs operations to ensure compliance with Federal regulations. Starting pay is $18.81/hour with amazing benefits and great culture!

Requirements

  • Age 21 by the time of appointment.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a General Educational Development Certificate (GED) is required; post-high school training, certification, and experience in safety and security are preferred, and customer relations experience is a plus.
  • Ability to perform and meet minimum standards established by the Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) for police officers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse community members.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to meet the department's physical requirements.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Excellent writing skills; basic computer skills are required; ability to research issues and projects; excellent interpersonal skills required; ability to establish working relationships with area law enforcement agencies; ability to accept a high degree of responsibility for projects, inventory of evidence room, department property and training responsibilities.
  • Candidates must pass a thorough background investigation and a post-offer psychological exam to ensure suitability for the role.
  • Physical requirements include hand and arm steadiness and finger dexterity enough to use a keyboard and telephone; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, occasional carrying up to 20 pounds; occasional pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds; may be subject to walking, standing, balancing, kneeling, bending, handling, feeling, climbing, smelling, and twisting; sufficient hand-eye coordination and position mobility in the ankles, knees, hips, and back as well as vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform essential tasks and maintain proficiency standards.
  • Must have physical stamina to chase and subdue fleeing persons, arrest suspects, and rescue victims.
  • Candidates must pass the CLEET Battery physical exam before appointment.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
  • Working environment is primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor duties in various weather conditions. Subject to shift work, overtime, weekends, holidays, and call-back.
  • This classification is a “safety-sensitive" position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Laws. As a "safety-sensitive" classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to and checks alarms for entry and exit gates and door alarms and may assist in screening airline workers behind secure areas.
  • Opens and closes secure checkpoints.
  • May issue parking citations or warnings.
  • Makes verbal and written reports and records and maintains data on appropriate forms, logs, and computer files.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively to answer questions regarding traffic, parking, travel directions, and complaints with customers, employees, and contractors within the airport.
  • Conducts terminal building fire safety inspections to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Act as a liaison between the police department and the community, fostering positive relationships.
  • Attend community events, meetings, and neighborhood gatherings to address concerns and promote collaboration.
  • Conduct routine patrols in designated areas to ensure public safety and deter criminal activity.
  • Monitor and report suspicious activities, hazards, or potential security risks.
  • Secure and maintain crime scenes until sworn officers and investigative personnel arrive.
  • Assist with the collection of evidence and information related to criminal investigations.
  • Complete reports, documentation, and paperwork related to incidents, investigations, and daily activities.
  • Attend training sessions to stay informed about laws, procedures, and technological changes.
  • Responds to all aircraft emergencies.
  • May perform other tasks as required to keep the Airport in compliance with FAR 139 and FAR107.
  • Helps enforce active loading curb management of upper and lower drives, creating safe and efficient traffic flow for pedestrians and vehicular traffic.
  • Coordinates passenger traffic as necessary while assisting the traveling public whenever possible.
  • Directs traffic in often heavily congested emergency areas; assists with medical emergencies by clearing space for emergency vehicles and notifying dispatch of first responder locations.
