About The Position

The position involves a variety of duties related to the operations at Rochester International Airport. Employees may be required to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the operational needs of the airport. The role requires the ability to work independently or in coordination with other Operations Department staff, prioritizing duties effectively. Responsibilities include responding to both emergency and non-emergency incidents involving aircraft, performing maintenance and repair tasks on airport facilities and equipment, and operating various types of equipment on the airfield. Additionally, employees will participate in regular training for aircraft rescue and firefighting, ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Building Utility Maintenance or a form of Firefighting Certification or specialized maintenance degree (e.g., plumbing, electrical) preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in firefighting or general maintenance duties, with preference for airport experience.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents involving aircraft at Rochester International Airport.
  • Perform maintenance and repair of the Airport's facilities and equipment.
  • Operate a radio for communication with the control tower and safely operate a variety of equipment on the airfield.
  • Carry and operate a two-way company radio for communications.
  • Perform snow and ice removal duties, making independent decisions when necessary.
  • Drive aircraft rescue and firefighting equipment and operate fire extinguishment equipment.
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment including mowers, tractors, heavy trucks, and snow removal equipment.
  • Participate in regular aircraft rescue and firefighting training and respond to simulated and actual emergencies.
  • Perform duties related to FAR Part 139 compliance, including issuing Notices to Airman (NOTAMs) and Field Condition Reports (Ficons).
  • Perform duties related to TSA Part 1542 compliance, including Airport Badging and TSA Enrollment.
