About The Position

The Airport Operations Officer is responsible for supervising and managing airport operational, safety, and security functions on a 24-hour basis. This role involves enforcing federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring adherence to established policies, and performing complex tasks related to airport operations. The officer represents airport management and oversees staff to maintain high work quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aeronautics, Aerospace, Aviation, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field, and two years of supervisory experience in airport operations or administration.
  • Associate's degree in Aeronautics, Aviation, Business Administration, or a related field, and four years of experience in airport operations or administration, with two years at a lead or supervisory level.
  • Ability to operate a variety of airport vehicles and aviation radios.
  • Valid California Driver License, Class C or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public sector budget development and administration.
  • Knowledge of community relations and customer service delivery standards.
  • Familiarity with aviation radio procedures and the phonetic alphabet.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, assign, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for airport operations.
  • Enforce applicable federal, state, and local safety and security rules and regulations.
  • Represent airport management as required and ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Perform technical and complex tasks related to airport operations.
  • Plan, coordinate, assign, and review the work of subordinate staff.
  • Investigate and resolve disciplinary issues among staff.
  • Monitor and interpret budgets and financial documents related to airport operations.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with other departments and the public.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate operations and procedural practices affecting airport operations.
