About The Position

RK&K is seeking Construction Inspectors experienced in airport construction projects, specifically relating to paving. In this role you will support multiple Field Engineering and Inspection projects throughout Baltimore, MD and the surrounding counties. Construction Inspectors work independently on project sites but work closely with project managers, project engineers, construction managers and other team members in provision of construction services on a variety of projects.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) to three (3) or more years of increasingly responsible, project experience in construction administration and inspection of airport construction or similar field
  • An independent self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, shop drawings, engineering reports and test results.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the organization, retrieval, and presentation of construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of airport construction activities, estimating and general contractor pricing strategies
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Professional Suite including Word, Outlook, Project and Excel is required as well as tablet-based PDF annotators.
  • MD Driver License and suitable driving records are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering technology, Engineering or related construction field activities.
  • Possession of current MD Construction Certifications or similar training and certifications
  • Other roles/titles associated: Field Engineer, Inspector, resident engineer, assistant resident engineer, QA Manager, QCM, Project Administrator and others.
  • Paving Inspector Certification (PIC) - Asphalt Institute
  • Airfield Asphalt Pavement Inspector (AAPI) Certification
  • ACI (American Concrete Institute) Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections of airport paving projects to verify compliance with approved plans, codes, and safety regulations.
  • Provide field engineering, construction management and contract support services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders) as needed on site and in the office.
  • Ensure that construction workmanship and materials adhere to established industry standards and meet project specifications.
  • Accurately document all construction inspection activities by creating daily reports and maintaining organized, detailed, and up to date field files
  • Oversee and coordinate material testing activities to ensure materials used meet project specifications.
  • Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation as well as other contract administration documentation
  • Participate in close out activities, including preparation of punch lists and final inspection reports.
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, and project teams including other disciplines, such as cost estimators, designers, and other engineers.
