About The Position

Rural Metro Fire Rescue is seeking a reserve/part-time Airport Firefighter-Paramedic for its Sikorsky Aircraft - Jupiter, Florida operation. The position would cover hours as needed for full-time employees.  This position could lead to full-time employment working a 24/72 schedule in the future.  The ideal candidate would have flexible availability and be able to work within short notice. This is an hourly position starting at $36.35 Under general supervision, the Airport Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for fire suppression, emergency rescue, and advanced life support (ALS) medical services in support of airport operations. This role responds to aircraft incidents, structural fires, hazardous materials events, medical emergencies, and other emergencies while ensuring compliance with FAA, NFPA, and company standards. The position also supports fire prevention, training, inspections, and customer service initiatives.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record per Rural/Metro policy (DUI within the past five years is disqualifying).
  • Ability to work any assigned shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency call-backs.
  • Ability to pass and maintain airport/customer driving tests and obtain required ramp, apron, and airfield driving clearances.
  • Ability to pass FBI fingerprint-based criminal history check and maintain airport security badge.
  • Must meet all local standards related to qualifications, training, promotion, and placement.
  • EMT-Paramedic certification (State or National Registry), including ACLS
  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter II (State, IFSAC, or Pro-Board)
  • NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials – Operations Level (State, IFSAC, or Pro-Board)
  • NFPA 1003 Airport Firefighter (State, IFSAC, or Pro-Board) or FAA-approved 40-hour Airport Firefighter course
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 30 days of hire
  • Ongoing professional development required to maintain skills and certifications

Responsibilities

  • Responds to and mitigates emergency incidents including structural fires, aircraft accidents and/or fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, water rescues, hazardous materials incidents, confined space and tunnel emergencies, terrorist-related incidents, and weather-related emergencies.
  • Performs rescue operations for persons endangered by fire, aircraft incidents, or other emergencies.
  • Participates in fire prevention and hazard reduction activities, including risk assessments and safety audits of airside and landside areas and airport/customer facilities.
  • Enforces fire codes and airport policies, including issuance of required permits.
  • Conducts inspections of fuel storage areas and fuel service vehicles in accordance with airport/customer policies and FAA FAR Part 139.
  • Performs runway safety inspections, self-inspections, and runway friction monitoring as required.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency medical calls, evaluates patient conditions, and provides appropriate ALS/BLS care on scene and during transport.
  • Treats patients in accordance with scope of practice, established EMS protocols, and Rural/Metro Fire Department policies.
  • Transfers patient care to appropriate medical facilities and personnel.
  • Conducts daily and weekly inspections of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Documents and reports all equipment or vehicle discrepancies to the on-duty supervisor.
  • Performs routine station and facility maintenance, including cleaning and inspections.
  • Completes accurate and detailed fire, EMS, and incident reports.
  • Maintains station records and documentation as required.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of corporate policies, procedures, and local Fire Standard Operating Guidelines.
  • Participates in all required training, including live fire drills, skills maintenance, performance evaluations, OSHA drills, and EMS competencies.
  • Completes continuing education to maintain FAA, NFPA, and EMS certifications.
  • Participates in ongoing airport-specific technical and operational training.
  • Maintains cooperative and professional relationships with co-workers, supervisors, airport staff, local fire and EMS agencies, and state, local, and federal partners.
  • Participates in public education and fire prevention programs, including station tours, safety briefings, and fire extinguisher training.
  • Operates and inspects communication systems and equipment.
  • Conducts radio communications professionally and in compliance with airport and FAA requirements.
  • Prepares written communications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Reviews documentation for accuracy and adherence to required processes.
  • Participates in scheduled and unscheduled compliance audits.
  • Implements corrective and preventive actions as directed by Corporate Compliance and Audit functions.
  • Cooperates with Internal Audit, Compliance, and HR on policy and workflow improvements.
  • Completes all required compliance training within established timeframes and maintains a compliance record free of corrective action during the review period.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on operational needs.
