About The Position

This position is available for Eagle County students enrolled in the CareerWise program. The Maintenance Apprentice mainly assists the maintenance department in miscellaneous tasks and activities throughout the duration of the apprenticeship.They will work on the airside and landside of the airport to keep airport grounds and facilities in good working condition. Applicants are encouraged to apply by April 1st. Essential Functions Performs landscaping, irrigation, planting, removal of debris from grass areas, rock islands and the airport perimeter fence, and maintains parking lots (20%) Performs general maintenance duties including maintaining, repairing and/or remodeling buildings, lighting fixtures, furniture, grounds, carpentry, fences, gates, asphalt and concrete surfaces. Paints interior and exterior structures. (20%) Assists with picking up trash around the airport grounds and inside the terminal. (10%) Assists in the maintenance of airport systems that may include heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and computer controls, functions and/or operations. (10%) Responds to baggage tie-ups/jams (5%) Load, unload, and position baggage up to 60 pounds. Handles all luggage with care. Monitors baggage system and responds/resets as situation requires (5%) Keeps the baggage system clean and maintains baggage areas (5%) Develops and maintains beneficial relationships with airport staff, tenants, concessionaires, and airport users. (5%) Observes safety and security procedures, uses equipment and materials safely and reports potentially unsafe conditions. (5%) Serves the community by demonstrating Eagle County Government mission and core values and following relevant policies and procedures. (5%) Other duties as assigned. (10%) Qualifications Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification, or Registration: Minimum Work Experience Minimal relevant work experience is beneficial. Skill and knowledge to perform routine tasks would be helpful. Preferred Work Experience 1 year physical work experience involving heavy lifting and carrying. 1 year airport experience 1 year experience with mechanical systems 1 year experience with irrigation systems 1 year experience with landscaping 1 year experience with equipment operation Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must successfully pass a 10 year background criminal history records check in accordance with TSR, Part 1542 and maintain eligibility for FAA and TSA-mandated security clearance requirements. Problem-solving skills Maintains professional attitude and focus under pressure Follows verbal and written instructions and procedures Maintains confidentiality for security matters Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, tenants, other governmental agencies and departments, community, airport users, and the traveling public. Ability to exert up to 60+ pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently; reaching, extending hands in any direction; handling, seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hand(s); fingering, picking and pinching with fingers. Some heavy lifting of objects up to 70 lbs. Flexibility necessary to bend, stoop, kneel or otherwise move around while accomplishing various maintenance tasks. Hear normal conversational tones and a wide variety of tones associated with equipment and emergency alerts. Willing to work early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays Climb ladders and work in small, tight areas. Work independently, staying alert throughout the day.
