About The Position

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving fire protection, firefighting, and rescue duties at a state airfield or airport. This includes training other employees and providing guidance, assistance, and direction to others during firefighting operations or in performing maintenance and other activities. Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others. This is the entry level of the job family, employees perform all duties associated with airfield firefighting in a training status while continuing to build their skills in fire protection, firefighting and rescue procedures. In this role, employees will be assigned tasks that involve enforcing fire protection regulations, maintaining the fire station and assigned equipment and safeguarding life and property at state airfields and/or airports.

Requirements

  • completion of International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or Pro Board Firefighter I & II, IFSAC Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certificate, the National Incident Management System (NIMS) incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, 800, Flammable Liquids, Medical Responder (EMR) Certification, Vehicle extraction, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Wildland, and Rope Operations Training
  • Completion of Airport Firefighter, Driver/Operator of Airport Rescue and Firefighting Vehicles.
  • Complete or enroll in Fire Officer and Instructor I.
  • Have a favorable pre-employment National Crime Information Center/Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (NCIC/OSBI) background check
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Pass a pre-employment baseline physical examination meeting National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582 standards
  • Pass the NFPA 1582 Occupational Task Evaluation Physical Ability Test
  • Obtain and maintain a "T3/secret" security clearance in accordance with established Army standards
  • Be available for on-call duty as required
  • Possess and maintain a valid Oklahoma Driver's license

  • Preference may be given to applicants with previous experience in Fire and Emergency Services.
  • Preference may be given to applicants that have completed all certifications prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as member of a firefighting and rescue crew. Maintains the first responder medical level of qualification. Maintains a license and qualification on each assigned fire department vehicle. Performs firefighting and rescue duties and operations.
  • Participates in contingency response. Responds in accordance with Department of Defense, Air Force, FAA and Tulsa International Airport guidelines.
  • Performs standbys.
  • Inspects and maintains firefighting equipment and facilities. Performs inspections and maintenance according to established schedules. Provides notification of deficiencies to responsible individual.
  • Keeps logbook current, dispatches crews, and performs operator maintenance according to established schedules.
  • Conducts complete inspections according to established procedures and schedules. Accomplishes all required reports. Performs personal familiarization walk through of 2 different facilities. Responds to base personnel inquiries on fire safety codes and regulations. Issues burn and welding permits in accordance with fire department policy.
  • Training. Maintains a 90% currency level for scheduled proficiency training. Receives at least six (6) hours of documented training per month from an instructor or self-study. Conducts training when requested. Conducts training in accordance with fire department standards.
  • Performs as the Incident Commander when first to arrive at an emergency until relieved by higher authority.
