Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is building a pool of qualified candidates for current and future opportunities as Aircraft Workers (AWs). This entry-level program offers aspiring aviation maintenance professionals—especially those with mechanical experience in automotive, marine, military, or industrial trades—a pathway to enter and grow within the aviation industry. AWs are paired with certificated Aircraft & Powerplant Maintenance Technicians in a helper/assistant role, gaining skills and hands-on experience while contributing to Embry-Riddle’s aircraft maintenance operations. As AWs gain proficiency, they progress through four defined levels (A1–A4), each with increasing responsibility, while remaining under the direct supervision of both their assigned mentor A&P and the crew shift lead. Work performed by AWs is conducted under the oversight of a certificated A&P mentor and crew shift lead. Lower-level AWs focus on support tasks such as cleaning, removing, preparing, and opening panels. Higher-level AWs are trained for basic maintenance tasks but remain under supervision. Top-level AWs perform at the functional equivalent of an entry-level A&P mechanic, but do not have return-to-service or inspection release authority. Level A1 – Basic Mechanical Skills Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude Verified by test, training, or past work experience in construction, manufacturing, industrial, or similar environments Entry point for candidates seeking a pathway into aviation careers Level A2 – Automotive, Marine, or Military Experience Mechanical skills obtained through direct work experience in automotive, marine, or military service Brings industry-specific background with proven hands-on technical ability Level A3 – Aviation & Manufacturing Experience Aviation-related skills obtained through military service or aerospace/aviation manufacturing environments Eligible to obtain a Repairman Certificate with privileges appropriate to demonstrated skillsets Demonstrated proficiency in aviation maintenance practices Level A4 – Advanced Technical Skills / Near A&P Equivalent Technical knowledge and hands-on ability equivalent to a Level 1–2 A&P mechanic Sufficient work hours and documented training to qualify for the FAA General Test for the A&P license Eligible to obtain a Repairman’s Certificate with at least 90% of qualifications completed in defined skill areas Functionally equivalent to an entry-level A&P mechanic
