About The Position

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is looking for an Aircraft Sheet Metal Fabrication General Mechanic to join our team in San Antonio, TX. The position involves fabricating, constructing, altering, repairing, and maintaining tooling, dies, jigs, holding fixtures, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and/or shop aids. The mechanic will be responsible for first level fabrication, maintenance, tool maintenance, repair, and storage of production tooling. The role requires reading and interpreting assembly drawings, parts drawings, specifications, job layouts, handbook formulas, templates, and other job information. The mechanic will operate manual, power-assisted, and power-operated machines, and will perform various fabrication tasks on aircraft components such as leading edges, flaps, rudders, fins, and skins. Compliance with health and safety regulations is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Experience with general aircraft fabrication, maintenance and processes.
  • Experience with sheer and brake presses.
  • Experience performing operations required to make molds, castings, punch holes, fabricate and/or modify assemblies.
  • Experience with Technical Publications.
  • Experience with prioritizing workload in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience as a general aircraft mechanic.
  • A&P Certification.
  • Process structure experience (i.e., Bracket removal/installs, fastener Installations to include rivet, countersinks, hi-loc).
  • Experience providing technical and operational expertise in the analysis, assessment, fabrication and repair/maintenance recommendations in support of the assigned program.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, construct, alter, repair and maintain tooling, dies, jigs, holding fixtures, assemblies, sub-assemblies and/or shop aids.
  • Fabricate metals for use in development and modification of aircraft in accordance with DOD, manufacturer, company, supplier and other directives.
  • Responsible for first level fabrication, maintenance, tool maintenance, repair, and storage of production tooling.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, parts drawings, specifications, job layouts, handbook formulas, templates, and other job information.
  • Operate manual, power-assisted and power operated machines.
  • Form a series of non-parallel and parallel bends on parts and determine bend sequence.
  • Fabricate and/or repair aircraft components such as leading edges, flaps, rudders, fins, inner and outer skins, bench parts, chem. mill skins and cones.
  • Perform work such as scarfing, blanking, grooving, forming, bending, piercing, perforating, punching, flanging, tapers, and slotting including the forming of regular and irregular shapes and contours and straight and contour cuts.
  • Setup, fabricate, align and hand form to specified tolerances.
  • Perform work requiring operations from standard procedures because of variations in hardness or usage of metal.
  • Responsible for complying with all rules and regulations concerning health and safety, tool control, contracts, facilities and other pertinent coverages.
