About The Position

Aircraft Safety/Software Safety Engineer (Associate, Mid-Level, Senior) Company: The Boeing Company The Boeing Defense Air Dominance Division Systems Safety & Mission Assurance organization is looking for and Aircraft Safety/Software Safety Engineer to join our Fighters (F-15 & F/A-18) programs in Berkeley, MO or Hazelwood, MO . We are seeking an Associate (Level 2), Mid-Level (Level 3), or Senior (Level 4) Aircraft Safety Engineer to support our growing portfolio of domestic and international customers. As a member of the Safety engineering organization, you will have the opportunity working directly with our customers & other program teammates including systems engineering, software engineering, mission systems, platform systems, flight engineering, production and flight testing. As an aircraft safety engineer, you will be responsible for working closely with other engineering disciplines to assess aircraft hardware/software/firmware design to identify all potential safety hazards and propose solutions to reduce or eliminate hazards to ensure product safety and customer mission success. Work scope includes safety hazard analysis across development, modification and operational phases of our fighter jets. Senior members will also participate in investigation of in-service fleet safety issues including in-flight emergencies, mishaps and near-misses. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in aircraft systems design and operations. Enthusiastic and highly collaborative engineers with a passion for technical details in both hardware and software or hazardous material management. Experience in MIL-STD 882, JSSSEH, DO-178/DO-254 standards is highly desirable. Ideal candidates are someone with aircraft design experience and strong critical thinking skill. Someone that works well in a team environment, ability to apply Seek, Speak and Listen approach to effectively connect and build relationship with teammates and customers. Strong written and oral communication is also an important attribute we are looking for.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
• Level 2: 2+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Level 3: 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2+ years of experience in aerospace systems including safety hazard analysis, environmental safety, air vehicle subsystems design & test, software design & test, hazardous material management or aircraft maintenance
• Ability to travel 25%
• This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
• An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Nice To Haves

• 5+ years of experience in Systems Safety Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Software Safety Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) or equivalent.
• Experience in MIL-STD 882, JSSSEH, DO-178/DO-254
• 5+ years of experience in Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Systems Safety Hazard Analysis (SSHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) or equivalent
• 5+ years of experience in complex software/firmware design, build and test
• 3+ years of experience in Software Safety Analysis
• Experience in hazardous materials management planning and reporting
• Experience in aircraft safety critical design (e.g. flight controls, electrical, navigation/guidance, avionics and communications etc...)
• Experience in Root Causes/Corrective Action (RCCA) methodologies to solve complex technical/safety issues

Responsibilities

• Participates in research and analysis to identify potential or reported manufacturing issues (e.g. non-conformances, quality escape, FOD etc..) and, risks, and safety concerns
• Participates in system research and analysis to identify potential or investigate reported in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns
• Supports identifying safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices
• Supports defining and validating safety, mission success, and airworthiness; provides support incorporating into designs, operations, and procedures
• Participates in tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements
• Assists with creating and maintaining aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes
• Contributes by documenting safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards
• Supports creating and maintaining safety and corrective action plans
• Provides support to ensuring mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle
• Participates in establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods
