The Aviation Aircraft Painter is responsible for the striping and painting of aircraft and other aircraft related components. Ensures compliance with the procedures for the storage, disposal and usage of chemicals and hazardous materials used or generated in the process of aircraft painting. Coordinates with maintenance in the preparation of aircraft painting. Coats surfaces of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin, or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other devices. Removes old paint from aircraft, using liquid paint remover and scraper as well as blasting with plastic media. Smooths surface with sandpaper and steel wool. Roughens aluminum surfaces with acid solution and steel wool to ensure that paint adheres to surface. Masks and covers portions of surfaces not to be painted. Paints insignia, letters, or numerals on aircraft surface using stencils. Knowledge of military publications, microfilm, and diagrams is mandatory. Knowledge of military and/or company forms required by work requirements. Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
